HighTool— A free and open source, high-level strategic transport model (2013-2015)

The HIGH-TOOL project aims at developing a free and open high-level strategic transport model to assess economic, social and environmental impacts of transport policy. The HIGH-TOOL model will allow quick scanning of transport policy options by the European Commission (EC). Input and output indicators of the model will be based on policy targets of the White Paper 2011 and the Roadmap for moving to a low-carbon economy in 2050, but may also be relevant to other areas of transport policy. The EC’s Impact Assessment Guidelines will serve as an important reference to define the model’s output variables

COMPASS - Optimised Co-Modal Transport For Reducing Carbon Emissions (2011-2014)

Logo European CommissionLead partner: Transport Research Institute (TRI), Edinburgh Napier University  (UK)

COMPASSThe work to be carried out in COMPASS will build on a substantial body of knowledge on co-modal and intermodal transport already available from past and current projects, in particular KITE, LINK, INTERCONNECT, HERMES, CLOSER, ORIGAMI and USEmobility. The main outputs of COMPASS will be a ‘Handbook of ICT solutions for improving co-modality in passenger transport’ and ‘An assessment of the potential impact of ICT solutions on a co-modal transport system’.

ORIGAMI - Optimal Regulation And Infrastructure For Ground, Air And Maritime Interfaces (2011-2013)

Logo European CommissionLead partner: Transport Research Institute (TRI), Edinburgh Napier University  (UK)

ORIGAMIORIGAMI recognises that effective solutions to existing problems in long-distance door-to-door passenger transport chains require the provision of attractive integrated networks and services and this is likely to require vision and co-operation between stakeholders in the public and private sectors. The project is concerned with improvements in long-distance door-to-door passenger transport chains through both improved co-modality and intermodality. Effective use of the available transport modes as well as the interconnection between trip legs will become increasingly important for a growing proportion of passenger journeys. Any substantial investment in transport infrastructure should anticipate who will be using it and how in the mid and long term given lengthy planning and construction phases for major projects, which could stretch up to 30 years. The general focus of ORIGAMI is on all those long-distance journeys which might benefit from more effective co-operation and/or interconnection between different modes and services, and on those situations where this is currently hampered by institutional barriers, lack of investment, or failure to innovate and which could benefit from a more enlightened approach.

PASHMINA - —PAradigm SHifts Modelling and INnovative Approaches. (2009-2011)

Logo European CommissionLead partner: Istituto di Studi per l'Integrazione dei Sistemi (ISIS) (IT)

PASHMINAPASHMINA— The development of economic and social concepts and tools is needed in rder to address global changes in a long term time perspective (2030 – 2050). It will take into account the paradigm shift in the energy-transport-environment nexus and the landuse and territorial functions. The adaptation issues related to global changes (for example to environment/climate and societal changes) including the trade-off between adaptation and mitigation policies and measures will have to be addressed in terms of economic, social historical, cultural and technological point of views, integrating the territorial and
temporal dimensions.

INTERCONNECT - Interconnection Between short and long distance Transport Networks (2009-2011)

Logo European CommissionLead partner: Transport Research Institute (TRI), Edinburgh Napier University  (UK)

INTERCONNECTThis proposal is concerned with the role of local and regional interconnections in the context of longer distance passenger journeys. It starts from the premise that, with the continuing increase in trip length in interregional travel, effective interconnection between trip legs will become a necessary feature of a growing proportion of passenger journeys, particularly of those which contribute most to the regional and national economies. It's co-financed by the 5th European Research Framework.
