DESTIN intends to design and apply a decision-support system for the identification and evaluation of a strategic transport network in the Western Mediterranean. To achieve this objective, the project is organised around:

  • A set of research activities linked directly to the design and application of the decision-support system. They include:
    • A diagnostic of the transport system in the area.
    • Developing supporting tools, including traffic-forecast models.
    • Defining scenarios and carrying out traffic projections.
    • Identifying a strategic network and evaluation.
  • Three complementary activities to provide support for project execution and to promote its outputs and feedback from the entire Mediterranean region. They are:
    • The validation, by an external group, of key methods and results.
    • A wide dissemination of DESTIN outputs.
    • Management of the project.

Work is broken down into a logical arrangement of 12 work packages.
