This service aims to provide European Transport policy-makers and experts information and data that is needed to answer strategic questions concerning transport systems in the Pyrenees.

The system was constructed as part of a transport research project ASSEMBLING in collaboration with the Institut d'Estudis Territorials (IET) from Barcelona.

The aim is developing a pilot website to assemble and translate information and knowledge covering the whole cross-border region, with an special emphasis on the national and interregional infrastructure plans. A pilot network of websites providing an intermediation between regional and national sources and European policy is being developed within ASSEMBLING.

The main official sources of information in the Pyrenees (in English when the source has names on different official languages) are the following ones:

  • Spanish and French Joined Observatory of the Pyrenees (Ministerio de Fomento / Ministère de l'Equipement). February 2000
  • Observatoire des Traffics au travers des Pyrenées (Direction Régionales de l'Equipement. Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrenées, Languedoc-Roussillon). Avril 1999
  • Interregional Communication Commission of the Pyrenees Working Group (CTP) (SICOP)
  • Website for the Catalan Pyrenees developed by the Regional Government of Catalonia

After the project be finalised in June 2000, the website is planned to be maintained and extended. To define the organisational form of monitoring is part of the project ASSEMBLING.
